History of NP Dodge
Since its inception in 1855,
the real estate company of NP Dodge has never gone without a Nathan Phillips Dodge at the helm. NP Dodge is the nation’s only real estate company to be lead by the same family and one of the oldest family operated businesses in the United States.
N.P. Dodge I and his older brother, Grenville Dodge, opened a tiny land office in Council Bluffs, Iowa in 1855. Grenville went on to serve as a general in the Civil War and help found the Union Pacific Railroad. N.P. stayed in the land-sale business to build the foundation for what is now America’s oldest real estate company and one of Omaha’s signature businesses, the NP Dodge Company.
N.P. Dodge II moved the company across the river to Omaha, Nebraska in 1900. He devised a way to develop and sell single family lots to the average wage-earner making the dream of home ownership come true for working-class people. By 1950, there were more than 200 NP Dodge subdivisions in 103 cities throughout the United States.
N.P. Dodge III, Phil Dodge, after four years in the Air Force as a World War II pilot, went on to concentrate the company’s operations in residential construction, insurance, mortgage lending, commercial and residential sales.
N.P. Dodge IV, Sandy Dodge, like his father, also served in the Air Force before taking over leadership of the company. Sandy has taken the company into property management, title services and corporate relocation making the company even more firmly rooted in Omaha.
N.P. Dodge V, Nate Dodge, is president of one of the largest full-service title and escrow closing companies and oversees the property management division, which maintains and leases more than 4,000 apartments in a two state area.
A century and a half later, men named N.P. Dodge are still blazing new trails. The pioneering and entrepreneurial spirit of the original N.P. Dodge has shown itself in four generations of namesake who have made NP Dodge Company the metro’s largest full-service real estate company. The company flourishes because of its leadership and commitment to the same solid principles it had in 1855; honest effort, perseverance, willingness to innovate and confidence in the future.
